A story about a man who is conflicted as he is pursued and adored by a woman. Shot in the streets of San Francisco in the late 1980s. This film was produced while I was a student at the San Francisco Art Institute. For me it exemplifies the spirit of student filmmaking and the student's ability to claim the streets as their film set. San Francisco is also featured somewhat as a character with all the people in the streets being part of the texture and life of the film. My roommate of the time, James Webb had created the character and costume of Skull and was a hit of sorts at Halloween on Polk Street where people watched with interest and concern as to whether this was a real person or not. There was much laughter and people wanting to take their picture with Skull and it seemed a good subject for a short film. Much of the film was shot during Christmas shopping in the Union Square area and the boat scene was shot in Golden Gate Park. Samantha Terhune (once a model for Chanel), who went by Tornado, plays the woman who is infatuated with Skull. The music was chosen to honor the taste of my roommate who was listening to Patsy Cline at the time. There are moments where the camera shakes and it is actually me laughing uncontrollably as I ran the camera and Jim did his thing, improvising the actions and emotional motivations of Skull. The character was born during shooting.
