Suburban RED - Moonscape Miniature Set
behind the scenes photograph
2020

The key to photographing miniature models and making them look as if large scale is to achieve a wide or long depth of field where the whole scene is in focus. Things that are small when photographed tend to have some out of focus parts within the photograph which give the small scale size away. To achieve a natural sun-light feel and a wide long depth of field I set up the miniature landscape outside using a black backdrop. The brightness of the sunlight means the iris of the camera must be set to a very small opening (f. stop of 22) which makes for the long depth of field.
