Signs of Life
Video
9.50 minutes
2010

This video was built off of three drawings I made about 30 years ago when I was a teenager and inspired by artists like Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel and Salvador Dali. I wanted it to be like a painted landscape with many things to look at. I use claymation, drawn animation, and various special effects to combine live action and artwork.

Masks, miniatures, animals, logos, symbols, life on Earth, global warming, the BP oil spill in the gulf, all factor into this video. It is a celebration of life and in a way an apocalyptic warning with the freeway as the Beast, technology being the trickster, the falling angel. Many of the techniques are low-tech or old school, combined with high tech computer graphics. Global warmings and ice ages, Mother Nature and technological society side by side.

Music played by John Steiner, variations on Pachelbel's Canon in D and Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt.
