Interior of Elf Ship set with myself dressed up as the Elf Alien. Christmas lights strewn around a hula hoop and green plastic party plates make for texture.

What is fun and actually a bit profound about practical effects is that you are having the experience of dressing up and dressing up a set and when you do it my way the set is built mostly to create an impression or an equivalent of a visual idea I have in my head or in a drawing. Sometimes the details do not matter, it is about an impression and the artifice of it all, when it shows through is something I love about cinema. I cannot say how delighted I sometimes feel watching an old very low budget monster movie and I am so conscious of the fact that there is this group that drove out desert rock outcroppings with their crazy costumes and props to film a monster movie with silly costumes which almost seem quaint. The rickety process of low budget filmmaking shows through and so some kind of humanity surfaces as well.
