Suburban RED - mask and miniatures

Computer editing has one spending many hours in front of a computer and with computer effects - even more. That wasn't the experience I wanted to have while living with my mother in her final years. While building the miniatures and puppets etc, I was able to do what I had done as a child around my mother and share with her the progress of an artwork and get her response which was usually a raised eyebrow or a praise of my skills or imagination. This spirit of creativity was something I wanted to give her.

Development of the Red Elf mask. This mask, built over a balloon with paper mache, was then layered with molded features of the lips and eyes and nose, then painted and then when captured in the final scenes on video was then enhanced with little computer accents like blinking and lip movements.
